Unite NY today announced the entity has endorsed Ben Walsh in his campaign to be reelected Mayor of the City of Syracuse. Unite NY is the new political home for New York State voters seeking common sense solutions to the state’s most pressing problems.
Unite NY Founder Martin Babinec said, “Since the launch of Unite NY earlier this year our mantra has been People Over Party and that founding principal rings true in the endorsement of Ben Walsh. Four years ago, Ben Walsh assumed office as the first independent mayor of Syracuse in more than 100 years and at that time, he was very clear that his goal was to work for the people of Syracuse, not political bosses. His track record since then proves that. Whether it is data-driven governance, an embrace of economic development programs that includes private sector input, or a dedication to building bridges across party lines, the mayor has delivered. We enthusiastically endorse Ben Walsh for a second term as Mayor of the City of Syracuse.”
Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said, “From day one, my team and I shed the divisiveness and partisanship that all too often diminishes the effectiveness of government at all levels. As a result, Syracuse is making progress: reductions in vacant properties, crime, and poverty and increases in high school graduation rates, home values and population. As an independent, I’m able to make every decision based solely on what is best for the people of Syracuse. In a second term, I will continue that approach to keep Syracuse rising. I thank Unite NY for its support of my candidacy.”
The endorsement from Unite NY acknowledges Walsh’s efforts to restore public trust in government and his commitment to post partisan politics by engaging a wide spectrum of stakeholders and working tirelessly to restore working relationships at the local and state levels. Mayor Walsh’s commitment to a governing philosophy that aims to bring Syracuse together by setting aside partisan politics and working together to make data driven policy decisions continues to improve the lives of all our city’s residents. His smart economic growth plans, including his support for the innovation economy investment also align with Unite NY’s efforts.
About Unite NY
Unite NY is a new political home in New York State for Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals, and independents to come together to seek common sense solutions. This new movement offers a home to more than 3.5 million New York voters not currently enrolled in a major party. Focused on a non-partisan approach to fixing real problems in our government, democracy, and economy, Unite NY supports candidates who understand working together is the only way we can succeed. Further, in 2022, Unite NY seeks to establish a ballot line by running a candidate for Governor to help fill the void created by our loss of 5 of the 7 minor parties previously holding statewide ballot access now eliminated from voter choice as the result of 2020 legislation which tripled the qualification hurdles needed to qualify as a minor party.
